Music's Future Past

Music's Future Past

After seeing both ladies, Beyonce and Diana, my observations are as a follows:
Beyonce is a great dancer.

Miss Ross is an excellent performer. She stands in one place and SINNNNNGGGGS! I mean, really sings.

I didn't think I was a Diana Ross fan but I remembered every song-*** from I'm Coming Out until Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand, Make This World a Better Place if You Can. I was singing the words.

In the words of a the great Poet...my nephew Breeze I Life this the Poet... "I'm scared of my son's future past." When I grew up music, was music. Today with all of this junk that they call music, What will be our children's music legacy?

Instagram Etiquette - Part 2

It has come to my ATTENTION, that being who I am...I tend to over think things.

I have been re-thinking this Instagram Stalker thing from ANOTHER ANGLE...

It occurred to me that, maybe the "STALKER" wants the recognition.
Why does that person who, in my words, "Went through my pictures like a hot knife through butter just pressing the LIKE button, only press like?

Normally, they typically don't comment, they just press like.  Is that person wanting a shout out?

If you have ever done it, are you wanting a shout out?

Then again, maybe I am just ov

Missed the Mark

I missed the MARK, today.

I am trying to become more consistent in my life.
Been noticing that I am a fast typer.  Which is trouble in the world of Instagram.  (follow me a Coilyencounters, I know it is a SHAMELESS PLUG- moving on, lol)
My typing doesn't matter here, on facebook or twitter, because I can correct the misspelled word or delete the post and start over.   Instagram, however is not as user friendly.

My commitment to myself is to become more consistent in areas of my life.  I chose commitment rather than challenge.  Due to the fact, that my mom has drilled in me the power of the tongue scripture, since I could read! lol

The areas that I am committing to being consistent are

This Blog
Organization Skills
Spelling
Working Out
Proper Diet (which means, I will limit pizza, ice cream and dessert to once a month)

Funny how God is, to let me know that I am supposed to be doing this, I ran into one of my old supervisors Teresa J, who mentioned that she reads my blog.  Heyyyyyy, Teresa!

Here she is with all this pretty coiled hair, outside of one of our local grocery stores.

What's your focus?  What is that thing that you need to commit, in order to bring focus into your life.

Let's hit the mark, together...TOMORROW!

Instagram Etiquette

Instagram Etiquette

Is there such a thing as Instagram Etiquette?
I'm sure there is.  However, the one that I would like to point out is, the (user name) has liked these photos.

I'm sure that you have seen something like this.

My opinion of this type of post is I think this poster is "THROWING SHADE".  Yes, I said it!!
This is in my opinion a way to call someone a stalker, on the low.
This says to ME, Look at (user name), they have gone through my photos like a hot knife through butter, just clicking the LIKE BUTTON.

What is your opinion on this?  I'm curious!

Sculpting

Sculpting is the Plan

Yesterday I was asked, 'How much more weight do you plan to lose?'
15 lbs is usually a dress size, for my body.  I really am not focused on the weight.
Gotta tone this body. I just want to be a size 8.

Currently, I am alternating between Kettleworx and Black Girls Workout Too.

I have decided to use a book to help with sculpting.

This is today's routine.

Are you a chick that lifts?   What's your workout routine?  Have you decided to vary your routine?

No Excuses

No Excuses

"No excuses" has been my mantra for awhile.   Mostly, it just included my fitness lifestyle.  Meaning, there was no excuse for me, to NOT work out!

Lately though it seems my mantra has taken a turn. It is funny how God will bring you back to something.  I haven't really been keeping this blog up to date.

My excuses were:
No time
Bad camera

Well, yesterday...God fixed all of that.
Over on twitter, lil ol' me, answered a question from my local radio station.
The question was, what will you wear on your first day back to school.
No, I am not in school, but hey, who tells the truth in social media. LOL

As a result, I won all of this.

Samusing Galaxy III Phone
Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tablet
Samsung Galaxy Camera
Samsung WiFi Hot Spot
Samsung Battery Back UP

I was even able to get this video'ed!  I am not the videographer.  Thanks to Letina of WJAMZ at 1073.

Sidenote:  Its really funny that I entered this contest on Aug. 1.  August 1, 1993 my life changed.  Looks like my angel (my daughter) wanted me to know, she is still blowing kisses and giving me hugs!  RIP..Maya Nicole-Elyse
I love you!

Which means, this blog will be getting a complete overhaul.

Reflection time, what have you been putting off?

My mom had me stuffing bags so fast, I felt like LUCY.

Praying that this event is successful for everyone who attends and the events around the world.

Thanks for stopping by!

I'm Sensitive About my S--T!

I'm Sensitive About my S--T!

In my  ERYKAH BADU voice...I'm a Natural and I am sensitive about my S--T!

This picture that Naptural85 (youtube-vlogger) posted on her instagram.

Last night, a relaxed friend also posted the pic.

I didn't see the humor. In fact, my reply to her was, this is how I feel about that

Well, this morning, one of my naturalistas posted the picture on Facebook and I liked it.

My sisters accuse me of being like Erykah Badu...

Yes, I'm a NATURAL and I am sensitive about my S--T!

Working Out is Hard..

Working Out is Hard..

Working out is Hard!  Excuses, those are easy.  It seems like I can come up with a million excuses why I can't work out.  I'm tired, I went to bed late, or I won't have time.

Each day, my thick chick wrestles with the fitness goddess that I want to become.  Some days, the thick chick wins.  Today, she lost.  I woke up this morning, the sun was shining.  I thanked God for the sun and the ability to work out.  Then, I grudgingly entered Toliver's Gym (my home workout area).

The workout was the stability ball with Tom Holland of Supreme90Day

I have done Supreme 90 with good results.  My mantra is, If It Is Broke, Then Don't Fix It.

I like this workout.  I have tried others Jillian Michaels, Leslie Sansone, Piloxing and Zumba.
Nothing really challenges me, like Supreme 90.  I know that I will walk away sore and better, as a result.  The workouts with Tom are pretty much all over the place, but I like it.  He works for me.  One thing he says that changed how I felt about the difficulty was ....If it doesn't CHALLENGE you, it won't CHANGE you!

I'm wanting to be healthy for my grandkids (whenever they should arrive, I'm in NO RUSH).  At this time I just enjoy hanging out with my 4 year old nephew at the park.

Fitness Goddess Wins,  The workout beat the EXCUSE!

On a commitment to stay focused for 90 days.

I GOT, THIS!!

until, tomorrow...when we have our next Coily Encounter.

Consistency is Key

Decided that I would be more consistent with the blog.

Here I will begin to post my random thoughts and adventures in my life.  During the past year, alot of things have changed in my life.

I became a major thrift addict.  I actually had to become an addict.  Why?  Well, my body went through a major change.  I went from an 18 to a 10.  Last winter, I was an 18 this winter I am in a 10.  Working towards an 8, with a vengeance.  My birthday is in a few days (47 to be exact).

I will be 46 years old.

In my home gym, I have pictures of other fellow 40 year olds:
Janet Jackson
Halle Berry
Mary J Blige

40 can be very sexy, indeed!

Off to complete this challenge 95 squats and 50 pushups..

Each day my inner THICK CHICK and I argue.  The argument goes like this

TC:  Girl, you look good.  We can miss a day.
ME:  Naw, we really got to get up
TC:  Its cold and this bed is warm
ME:  We got plans for 47.....  Remember....Consistency is Key

Shedding 52 LBS Took 9 months

Questions that I get asked about my transformation

What did it for you??  What made you lose the weight?

Almost 2 years, I was in NYC visiting my favorite aunt.  She kept pulling at this lump under her arm.  Saying how it was hurting.

Fast forward to last December, I noticed the same lump.  Mine didn't hurt, however, it felt as if it were growing.  I would go to the dr and have them tell me it was nothing.  However, I was scared and I wanted to do everything to prevent that from becoming a reality.

Later on I would be watching Dr. Oz.  He was saying that if your waist is above 35 inches that you put yourself at risk for all sorts of disease, such as; hypertension, cancer, diabetes and a host of other issues.  My waist was 38.  During this journey, I have had a very many highs.  However, the one that made me cry the most was when my waist measured in at 34.  Currently, I have a 31 inch waist.

I felt as if, Dr Oz came sat on the couch and held my hand.  Rather than choosing to be scared to DEATH, I got scared into LIFE.

Healthy eating began that day!

One of the best things I was told was by a personal trainer..She told me to pretty much think of food as FUELING my body rather than feeding my body.
I have given up soda.

The strongest thing I drink is a smoothie.
Breakfast will be a Green smoothie, oatmeal with fruit or Kashi cereal with fruit.
Snacks are Almonds, string cheese or Fruit.
Lunch could be a sub (subway) or chili and a salad from Wendys..Jr Hamburger from Wendys with fruit cup or side salad..
Dinner - could be anything from Chinese food to actually something healthy.

Sample dinner is Grilled chicken, baked sweet potato spinach.

I try to stay away from processed food and eat mostly fresh fruit and veggies.

Yes, I still eat pizza and ice cream.  I just don't eat a whole pizza or a whole tub of ice cream, like I used to.

Another statement that woke me up was by none other that Richard Simmons.
Richard Simmons was on the Dr's shortly after the Dr. Oz epiphany   He stated, 'Each time that you overeat, you are in essence creating food suicide.'

Also, I recommend a good support system.  Fit For Life Sisters is the one that I use.  It is Christian based and filled with awesome ladies.

NY Times Reporter Documents Transitioning

Here  is the complete story.

I believe her intention was to write a story.  Somehow, she decided to transition.  At first, I was disturbed by her statement, "I already look ugly.

She also states that she feels that going natural is a political choice, as well.  Not really sure how I feel about that statement either.

For me, each time that I went natural it was because this tenderheaded girl, does not like to many hands in my hair.  I always hated going to the beauty shop.

Shades of Orange

Got the title of the post from Shades of Grey.  By now most people have either heard of or read the book by E.L. James.  Supposedly, Selena Gomez is going to play Anastasia Steel. Don't know how to feel about that one.

On to the title of this post...

Shades of Orange:

During the past 5 months, I have worked my bootay off.  During that time, I have gone from a size 18, weighing in at 221 lbs.  Currently, I weigh 185 and wear a size 10, depending on the cut.

Looking over my photos, its easy to see orange is one of my favorite colors.

As stated on http://crystal-cure.com/orange.html Here is what is said about ORANGE.

Orange is a power color. It is one of the healing colors. It is said to increase the craving for food. It also stimulates enthusiasm and creativity. Orange means vitality with endurance. People who like orange are usually thoughtful and sincere. Lady luck's color is orange.

I started out with Jillian Michaels, thanks to my #OGcurly -Crissy

Began to notice that I felt good after working out, but not really challenged. After 30 days of Jillian, I moved on to Supreme 90 by Tom Holland.  I love his workouts!  Tom reminds me of myself.  He starts on one thing and then next thing I know, we're doing something else.  Talk about muscle confusion.  The 10 set of DVD's cost 19.99 at most locations. (Walmart, Amazon and Dollar General)  You will need a stability ball and weights for most workouts.  However, if you don't have the ball, most videos show how to workout without it.

Wendy Williams with Natural Hair Wig

Late last night, was turning channels and got a glimpse of Wendy Williams with Curly Hair wig.

I kind of like it.  Looks like it needs just a little more shape to it.

Perhaps, Wendy will start rocking her natural hair.

What are your thoughts?

I almost had a NaturalHair style

Today's Encounter:  I went to my dad's church .  Usually, I do this when I need to hear something special just from him.  Being the cry baby that I am, feeling rather proud of myself.
Only when I was introduced as his daughter, did I get emotional.
When it is pretty outside, I miss him.  Mainly, because I can imagine him golfing.  Then, after golfing he would call and just hang out at my house.

While at my dad's church, I noticed 3 coily girls.  Yes, I invited them to the May 19th event.  One remembered an event that I had a few years back.  (insert smiley face)

Last night ,as I was talking with Karen, I told her of the big plans that I had for my hair.

It was supposed to turn out like this:

However, it turned out more like this

Man, I wish I could cornrow!  Mine always comes out puffy!

I am going to try the style minus the cornrows.
Will definitely, keep my coils posted

Happy Sunday!

Through the Decades- An ode to my birthday

This year, things are a little different, there is no trip to report.  Nothing special being done.  Today is a day of reflection.

A friend once wrote the following about me..The "March Fourth" thing has always resonated with me:

Know that you are victorious in all you set your mind to because....... you were predestined to arrive "on stage" precisely on the day after the "MARCH FORTH" command was given!  The next expletive uttered was by your mother when she hollered out loudly and proclaimed, ............."LAWD!!....have Marci!"

This little girl is still here, still wanting to do things that are so different from the NORM!

My mom says, that I was 2 in this picture.  I still want to know what I'm thinking!

Next come your preteen years.   My sister, J (Left) and I .  She will forever be my no girl!!!lol

Being a teenager with the strictest father on the planet sure want any fun!  He once told me, 'There is nothing open after 12 but a woman's legs'.  My curfew was 11 until, I turned 25!

I got in trouble for coming home, at 2.  My dad asked if I needed a timex?

Then on January 16,1992..I was introduced to the love of my life!!!
Here he is at 16! my SON!~!!!

I have done some crazy thangs,

Met some interesting people.

I owe my life to one special person, Ms Vonnie Coils (inside joke).  On this day, I celebrate her!
The prettiest woman I know, aint she fly???!

Thank you, mother for giving me life!  On this day back in 1967, she, birthed ME!  Thank you isn't or will never be enough!

Love,

Me

Brown

I love color, I really do.

Brown is my favorite color.  When I want a POP of color, then PURPLE is what I run to.  I love to think it is because those colors represent who I AM.  I am a PISCES, LEO RISING.  The purple represents the water, that is linked to the FISH in me.  However, the BROWN represents the LEO, that is also in ME!

Brown is a natural, down-to-earth neutral color. It is found in earth, wood, and stone.

Brown represents wholesomeness and earthiness. While it might be considered a little on the dull side, it also represents steadfastness, simplicity, friendliness, dependability, and health.

I love this picture of me and my nephew Jakx, pronounced Jacks!
